My graduate student project is based on the function of FK506 binding proteins (FKBPs), protein folding catalysts with chaperone and peptidyl prolyl isomerase function, in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Several months after I started my graduate student project, we established a collaboration with the Bächinger Lab at the Portland Shriners Research Center in Oregon - a lab, which is very experienced in the field of FKBPs.
To assess the activity of FKBPs in response to some IPF therapeutics I was given the opportunity to perform several different, already well established, activity assays at the Bächinger Lab.
During my stay in Portland I was able to learn new methods and also to broaden my horizon in discussions with Bächinger Lab members, who gave me great input. Moreover, I could generate very promising data that have led to new interesting insights concerning my doctoral project.
