Announcement: Coronavirus (2019-nCoV)

Dear Graduate Students,

There is continuous media coverage of the spread of the new coronavirus. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI), which is responsible for this subject in Germany, continues to estimate the risk to the health of the German population as moderate despite the first proven cases in three German states.

As our contribution to preventing the further spread of SarsCoV-2, we ask all graduate students who come to Germany from one of the affected cities in various countries worldwide (including Europe) or who have come to Germany from one of the affected cities first to clarify by telephone with their supervisor whether home office is possible for 14 days.

If symptoms of respiratory tract infection or fever occur during this time, you should immediately report to the outpatient clinic of the Munich Tropical Institute on 089/ 2180 13500. Announce your visit to the practice and describe that you were in the affected region or had contact with a sick person and have developed corresponding symptoms (e.g. fever).

It is advisable you maintain good hand hygiene, coughing and sneezing etiquette, and keep a distance of about 1 to 2 meters from the sick person. However, in view of the current wave of flu, these measures are advisable everywhere and at all times. Please also use the disinfectant dispensers installed in the buildings of Helmholtz Zentrum München. If flu-like symptoms occur, please first contact your family doctor by telephone.

Travel/ business trips to affected areas (current information on the RKI homepage) is not recommended.

Further, constantly updated information can be found on the website of the Robert Koch Institute.

If you have any questions, you can reach the hotline of the Bavarian State Office for Health and Food Safety at (0)9131-68085101.
