Campus Connect Symposium

Research Symposium on the topic: 'Natural Products: Analytics, Biodiversity and Biochemistry'

Date:18.06.2018 - 20.06.2018

Place: Campus Weihenstephan, Freising / Campus Straubing

Program for doctoral candidates:

Participants take part in the research symposium on Monday and Tuesday. Everyone can benefit from listening to talks in 5 sessions, strengthening professional networks and exchanging with the international scientific community of food science experts.

In short side events, doctoral candidates take part in “scientific speed dating” to get to know the peer group on the Campus Weihenstephan and exchange about the contents of their doctoral projects and applied techniques and measuring instruments. The frame program is guided by staff of the Graduate Center Weihenstephan (GZW).

On Wednesday, we travel to the Campus Straubing together with the scientific core group from TUM, University of Queensland (Australia) and UNESP (Brasilia). On that day, we divide in sub-groups and develop cooperative project ideas using creativity tools and outside the box thinking as they are used in start-ups. We want to brainstorm about innovative and interdisciplinary projects for the near future including competencies from all three universities. After rapid prototyping, doctoral candidates pitch their visionary concepts to international scientists taking part in the symposium and get feedback and an estimation if they are actually feasible. Representatives of each group have the invitation to go to Munich with the scientific core group on Thursday to present their ideas to funding institutions and scholarship providers. Thereby, the generated ideas can directly be brought a step closer to realization.

Participation includes coffee breaks, taking part in a networking event with JubilaTUM special brew and Bavarian finger food, Lunch in Straubing and the transport to and from Straubing.

For their ongoing careers as junior researchers and for their future as post-doctoral scientists, participants learn on the run:

  • Create research topics of the future
  • Learn to present ideas convincingly
  • Network in an international context
  • Evaluate funding possibilities of research projects
  • Connect with fellow doctoral candidates
