HELENA Retreats

Interdisciplinary exchange, scientific discussion and networking

In the fast-paced day-to-day routine of the laboratory, intensive scientific discussions in a relaxed atmosphere tend to occur far too seldom. HELENA retreats therefore offer you the opportunity to exchange ideas intensively over several days with other scientists and graduate students about a scientific topic or a special method and to discuss your own work.

For that reason, HELENA provides funding for graduate students for two-to three-day retreats. The organization and initiative of the retreats is carried out by interested graduate students who form the organizing team together with the support of the Graduate Student Office.

Besides presenting their own work at the retreat, the participants can also focus on the following topics: intensive examination of a particular method or a particular field, discussion with invited guest speakers, improvement of professional skills like scientific presentations or writing with the assistance of participating trainers.

In addition to interdisciplinary exchange, networking will also be a focus of the retreat. Common activities such as a barbecue, hiking or sightseeing shall facilitate networking beyond institute borders and disciplines.

Interested? Then please . We will be happy to discuss retreat options with you and help you to implement your ideas for a retreat.

The venues for HELENA retreats are Scheyern Experimental Farm or Benediktbeuern Monastery.

Depending on the duration and content of the retreat, HELENA Equivalents (HE) will be given to all participants. The Graduate Student Office will calculate the number of points together with the organizing team. The organizing team will receive 6 additional HE for organizing the retreat.
