Second HELENA Interview Days
Highly Motivated Candidates
From July 18 to 20, 2012, 23 graduate students from Europe, South America and Asia visited Helmholtz Zentrum München. They were invited by scientists of the Center and by the Helmholtz Graduate School Environmental Health (HELENA) via international application procedure.
Of the more than 300 applications being submitted, HELENA selected and invited 23 excellent international candidates for the interview days. On the first day, the candidates got information about the Center and about HELENA. After a guided citiy tour in Munich they also visited a typical “beer garden”. On the second day, they presented their own scientific work and pointed out links to research projects. The candidates were also interviewed by Center scientists and by a review board as part of the selection process.
During their three-day stay at HMGU, the young scientists met with their potential future research groups, visited their laboratories and exchanged ideas with Center scientists in their work environment.
According to the scientists, the application procedure was a great success. Ten of the invited graduate students will get a contract with the Center to carry out research projects within the HELENA program. The final decision about who will be accepted into the Helena program and given a position in a research group was made by the review board and will be announced within the next days. A new application round will take place at the beginning of 2013.
